West Ada School District Backpack Program
The Meridian Food Bank sponsors a backpack food program for the West Ada School District, which includes the communities of Boise, Meridian, Eagle, and Star. Many students who receive reduced-price or free lunches come from situations where food is scarce, and they need extra food assistance. Our program gives qualifying students a backpack on the last day of school each week during the school year filled with enough food for six meals and two snacks to ensure that they have food to eat over the weekend. During school year 2018/2019, we distributed over 20,000 backpacks.
You can help by sponsoring a child for $25. Your donation will provide enough food to feed a student for one month, and you have the option to do a one-time donation or a recurring monthly donation. You also have the option to sponsor more than one student (we've included 1, 2, and 3 student options), or sponsor as many as you wish with a donation in $25 increments. We truly appreciate any support that you can provide.

We need approximately $75,000 per year to administer this program. We hold an annual fundraiser, called "Knock Down Hunger" to help raise funds for the program. In 2019 we raised $11,000 from the Knock Down Hunger event, so we need to rely on donations from the public and grants to buy the food for the backpacks. Thank you for your support!
